Graduate assistantships or fellowships are available on a limited basis and are very competitive. Please note that assistantships or fellowships are not based on financial need but on merit and the needs of the department. If you are the recipient of an assistantship you will receive communication regarding the position from your academic department. If you did not receive an assistantship or fellowship but would like to be considered at this point, please contact your academic department directly.
Though an assistantship/fellowship may not be available for your first semester of study, you should always check with your department for the availability of an assistantship/fellowship in subsequent semesters. Your faculty advisor will be your best resource for information regarding assistantships/fellowships. If you do receive an assistantship/fellowship, you are required to attend a training workshop prior to the start of classes. The date of that workshop will be included in your award notice letter. Also, you will need to apply for and receive a Social Security Number (if you do not already have one), before you begin your assistantship/fellowship.
