Provost Perrin presents at 2013 ACE/AIEA Internationalization Collaborative Annual Meeting
This annual daylong program is designed for campus leaders responsible for internationalization, including senior international officers, provosts, deans, department chairs, and program directors. The Collaborative is part of a strategic partnership between ACE and AIEA. The two organizations share the goal of developing strong campus leaders who can guide their institutions through the challenges of internationalization. The Collaborative is designed to complement the sessions of the AIEA Annual Conference held the following week by giving its participants the opportunity to delve deeply into a timely, critical issue. The 2013 Collaborative focused on building strong connections between international strategy and broad institutional goals. The topic was framed by a morning panel of three campus leaders who described how they have developed institutional goals on their campuses. An afternoon panel, composed of three Senior International Officers, responded to the morning’s topic. Participants had opportunities to discuss the topic through plenary sessions, small group discussions, and online dialogues before and after the meeting. In the morning panel (moderated by Patti McGill Peterson of ACE), UNCG Provost David H. Perrin was joined by Dr. Mark Heckler, President of Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana, and Dr. Anne Kress, President of Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York. In aligning international strategy with institutional goals, Provost Perrin emphasized the necessity of having support from the highest level and involving faculty throughout the process. He discussed the success of the ACE Internationalization Laboratory experience on UNCG’s campus and highlighted the importance of the Scholar at Risk program. The Collaborative participants were particularly interested in the Student International Competencies recommended by the UNCG ACE Taskforce and had questions about UNCG’s Global Leadership Program (GLP).
