Welcome to a New Academic Year!

The International Programs Center would like to welcome everyone to a new academic year! In following tradition, Chancellor Linda Brady hosted her semi-annual Welcome Reception on August 24 in honor of all new international students and all students returning from study abroad. The reception brought out a record-setting crowd of students, staff, faculty, and alum from across campus and the community.

After guests had time for some eating and mingling, Dr. Penelope Pynes stepped up to the podium to welcome all the various groups of students in the room before introducing Chancellor Brady. The Chancellor offered her words of welcome and support to all the new international faces and expressed the importance of study abroad experiences for all young people. She hopes everyone has a wonderful year and continues to support the internationalization of the UNCG campus.

When introducing her student, Director of Study Abroad and Exchanges Denise Bellamy shared the following with the audience: When the new international exchange students were asked to pinpoint a phrase that describes their group, they came up with “Hakuna Matata,” a Swahili phrase that translates to “There are no worries.” Indeed, this semester’s exchange students are incredibly positive and lively, as shown by their enormous presence at the Welcome Reception.

Thanks to all who attended the Chancellor’s Welcome Reception. It was a great turn out! From everyone on the International Programs Center team, we wish you all a happy and successful semester and year!
