Students pursuing a degree at UNCG receive an I-20 form (F-1 student).
Students participating in an exchange program conducted by UNCG receive a DS-2019 form (J-1 student).
An I-20 form or a DS-2019 form is the document issued by the school representing the school's invitation to you to pursue your studies at their campus. You must present the original I-20 form or DS-2019 form at the U.S. embassy when applying for your student visa. You must also present the I-20 form or DS-2019 form at the port of entry each time you enter the United States. Each time you exit the country with intent to re-enter the U.S., you should obtain the signature of the International Student Advisor verifying your eligibility to return to the U.S. to continue your studies. Even though you may have gained admission and received an I-20 form or DS-2019 form from several schools, you must present to the immigration officer at the Port of Entry the I-20 form or DS-2019 form from the school in which you intend to enroll. Should you use an I-20 or DS-2019 document for entrance into the U.S. and do not enroll in that school, you are in violation of your student visa regulations. It is your responsibility to assure that the dates on your I-20 form or DS-2019 form are valid through the duration of your study.
