Maintain Visa Documents Current
- Passport: Maintain a valid passport, know the expiration date of the passport, renew the passport in a timely manner, and present the new passport the International Programs Center (IPC) for copying.
- Student Visa: Know the expiration date of the current visa and provide the International Programs Center with a copy of any visa renewal.
- I-20 or DS-2019: Know the program completion date on the I-20 or DS-2019. In the event of an extension to these documents, provide the International Programs Center with a memorandum from the student's academic advisor requesting an extension prior to the expiration date. The request for an extension to your I-20 or DS-2019 forms must be submitted to the International Programs Center within six months from the end date of your I-20 or DS-2019 forms. **Failure to maintain a current I-20 or DS-2019 will result in the student falling "out of status" with the U.S. government, losing the benefits associated with the F-1 or J-1 visa.**
