Enrollment Services Wins National Award for Web Site
GREENSBORO – The Division of Enrollment Services at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro has won a national award for its web site that eases new students’ transition into college life and increases retention.
The National Academic Advising Association awarded its Outstanding Electronic Publication Certificate of Merit to Spartan Success in the web site category.
Spartan Success is a web-based program that provides UNCG students with e-mail updates to keep them informed about day-to-day happenings on campus. The site also carries topics ranging from transitioning into college life to managing stress to preparing for a career search.
“Retention is really the main goal,” said Scott Amundsen, associate director of student academic services, who was a member of the team that worked on Spartan Success.
“On the front end, we are students’ best friends, but they get here and they may feel like they never hear from us again. Spartan Success is an effective way to share information and to let them know we are still here and there is information here right here at your finger tips.”
The team that worked on the project included Jason Fleck in admissions; Jason Buterin, Sarah Lawrence, and Ellen Redmond in enrollment services; Elizabeth Lucas in the Learning Assistance Center; Geoff Bailey in special support services and Scott Amundsen and Cindra Kamphoff in student academic services.
