UNCG ArtsLink Presents ArtsWeek, Oct. 1-7

GREENSBORO — The University of North Carolina at Greensboro will demonstrate the breadth of its creative and performing arts programs when the university’s arts council, ArtsLink, sponsors its first ArtsWeek, Wednesday through Tuesday, Oct. 1-7, on the UNCG campus.

Held in conjunction with UNCG’s homecoming, FallFest, the festival will include 22 cultural events in seven days. Several events are free and many require only a modest admission fee.

Faculty, students, alumni and guest artists will unite in presenting to the university and the community programs in music, art, dance, interior design, theater, creative fiction and more.

Highlights will include:

• Faculty Jazz Concert, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. School of Music Recital Hall. $8 adults, $5 seniors and students, $3 UNCG students.
• Fiction Reading by Quinn Dalton, author of “High Strung.” Oct. 2 at 8 p.m., UNCG Faculty Center on College Avenue. Free.
• Feast of the Dead Film Premiere, a documentary about the All Soul’s Day celebration in Sicily. Reception Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. and screening at 7 p.m., Elliott University Center. Free.
• Shark Quest, WUAG sponsors a concert by these national recording artists based in Chapel Hill. Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. in Elliot University Center Auditorium. Free.
• Krasnoyarsk National Dance Company of Siberia, UC/LS, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. in Aycock Auditorium. Call the box office for ticket prices.

In addition, the Weatherspoon Art Museum will open an exhibition of Eva Hess drawings, Department of Theatre will present Clare Boothe Luce’s “The Women,” and the Department of Interior Architecture faculty will host a panel discussion on design.

UNCG has a rich interdisciplinary history, including events such as the Arts Forum of the ‘50s and ‘60s. In the future, ArtsLink hopes to offer more interdisciplinary events and series ticket pricing. For more information about ArtsLink, visit http://arts.uncg.edu.
