UNCG BROADCASTING & CINEMA DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES NEW ADVISORY COMMITTEE
GREENSBORO — The Department of Broadcasting and Cinema at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro recently announced the appointments to its reestablished advisory committee under the leadership of a longtime broadcasting professional.
Lee W. Kinard Jr., 50-year veteran as a news anchor, producer and writer, will serve as committee chair to the newly appointed members, who have agreed to serve two-year terms. First created in the early 1980s, but inactive for a number of years, the committee acts an interface among industry, commerce, government, the community and the Broadcasting and Cinema Department. The committee will assist the department by reviewing the departmental mission, curricular goals and departmental resource offerings in relation to community need and market demands. The committee will also assess the effectiveness of the department with annual reviews of its programs and projects.
In addition to Kinard, new advisory committee members are: Scott Davis, director of program development for the University of North Carolina Center for Public Television (UNC-TV); Francine DeCoursey, co-president of On Location Production Services based in Wilmington; Don A. Grady, associate professor of Communication at Elon University; Dick Harlow, general manager of WKSI-WPET; Sandra Hughes, anchor of WFMY-TV News 2; Brenda Lilly, executive producer and writer for the Fox Network TV series “State of Grace”; Bernard Mann, owner and publisher of Our State magazine; Ron Miller, Vice President of Public Relations for Trone Advertising; Henry E. Price, president and general manager of WXII-TV; Gary Todd, owner and operator of Televisual Productions, a NC film and video production company; and Joseph E. Weatherly, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Jefferson Pilot Communications. DeCoursey, Lilly and Todd are all UNCG graduates. Kinard received a Ph.D. from UNCG.
Five UNCG faculty members will also serve on the committee. They are: Matthew Barr, associate professor, Department of Broadcasting and Cinema; Frank Donaldson, director of Undergraduate Studies, Department of Broadcasting and Cinema; Dr. Michael Frierson, director of Graduate Studies, Department of Broadcasting and Cinema; Dr. John Lee Jellicorse, department head and Advisory Committee Convener, Department of Broadcasting and Cinema; and Amy Lixl-Purcell, assistant professor, Department of Art.
The Department of Broadcasting and
Cinema also has a separate student advisory board composed of all majors
of its undergraduate Media Studies curriculum and graduate program in Film
and Video Production. UNCG offers the community and surrounding areas an
unparalleled combination of multidisciplinary resources, including communications
media, that develops new knowledge, stimulates business and inspires leadership.
Chancellor Patricia A. Sullivan welcomed the boards during a Sept. 28 luncheon.
