Carolina Film and Video Festival Seeks Entries
GREENSBORO — The 26th annual Carolina Film and Video Festival is calling on high school, college and independent filmmakers to submit cutting edge entries that illustrate personal vision for its annual competition.
Deadline for submission is Jan. 15, 2003. Submission guidelines and forms can be found at www.carolinafilmandvideofestival.org. Entry fees range from $20 to $50.
Total awards are expected to match or exceed last year's $2,500 in cash and a supply of Kodak filmstock. Awards will be given in the following categories: best narrative, documentary, or experimental work by a college student; best narrative, documentary, or experimental work by an independent filmmaker; and best work by a high school student. In addition, the screenwriting competition will return for the second year. Scripts should be 30-60 pages in length and convey stories about or taking place in the Carolinas. The scripts do not have to have been produced to be evaluated in the competition.
This year’s festival will take place Feb. 19-22, 2003. In an effort to gradually move the festival’s events to Carolina Theatre, winner's night will be held at the historic venue this year. International Web artist Brendan Dawes will be the keynote speaker.
The Carolina Film and Video Festival is the oldest continuously operating film festival in the Carolinas. Growing from a one-day event in February 1978, the festival has recognized more than 300 films and videos as festival winners. Its mission is to encourage and promote excellence among student, independent and commercial film and video artists in the Carolinas by showcasing their works and to honor films and videos that feature Carolina themes, stories and locale.
