UNCG Friends of the Library Elects Officers
GREENSBORO – Selby Bateman and Ned Cline, both of Greensboro, were elected co-chairs of the UNCG Friends of the Library for 2004-05 at the group’s annual meeting March 4.
Bateman is a senior editor with Pace Communications in Greensboro. He received a master’s degree in American history from UNCG in 1975 and is a graduate of the Bryan School of Business’s Program for Management Development. He holds a bachelor’s in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Cline is an award-winning journalist and former managing editor of the News & Record in Greensboro. A political science graduate of Catawba College, he studied at Harvard University as a Nieman Fellow, concentrating on southern politics. He is the author of “Adding Value: The Joseph M. Bryan Story from Poverty to Philanthropy” and “Stanley Frank: Greensboro's Quiet Benefactor.”
Elected to the group’s board of directors for three-year terms were Kate Barrett, Jewell Cooper, Quinn Dalton, Betty Hicks, Jim Schlosser and Pam Sprinkle, all of Greensboro.
The UNCG Friends of the Library was founded in 1959 and has supported Jackson Library’s growth and development ever since. In 2001, the group was instrumental in the acquisition of the library's one-millionth volume. The library was named a Literary Landmark by the Friends of Libraries USA in 2002.
The UNCG Friends of the Library has more than 570 members.
