UNCG DEAN ROBERT CHRISTINA TO PRESENT
INVITED LECTURE AT NATIONAL MEETING

GREENSBORO--Dr. Robert W. Christina, dean of the School of Health and Human Performance at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, has been invited to deliver the Dudley Allen Sargent Lecture at the annual conference of the National Association for Physical Education in Higher Education in Austin, Texas.

Christina will give the address on Jan. 9, 2000, on the topic "Advancing Engagement in Kinesiology and Physical Education." The Sargent Lecture is given annually by a distinguished professional and member of the organization. It is named for the late Dudley A. Sargent, a Harvard University professor who was one of the most influential early leaders in physical education.

Christina came to UNCG in 1992 as professor and dean of the School of HHP. His research and scholarly interests have focused on motor control and learning and its practical applications. Specifically, the research examines the processes by which people master and perform skilled movements such as those in golf.

He received the 1986 Outstanding Research Award from the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. He is coauthor of two books, "Coaching Young Athletes" and "Coaches Guide to Teaching Sports Skills." He also has edited or co- edited six books, and is author or coauthor of more than 80 articles which have been published in journals. He holds the Ph.D. degree from the University of Maryland.

Christina is a past president of the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Education and of the American Academy of Physical Education and Kinesiology, and a past vice president of the National Association for Physical Education in Higher Education.
