SCOTT ELDER NAMED DIRECTOR OF
The appointment was announced by Dr. Patricia Stewart, UNCG vice chancellor
for university advancement. Elder's responsibilities as director
will include fund raising for athletic scholarships for the University's
16-team, NCAA Division I program. His development activities include
annual and major gifts, fund raising for athletic scholarship endowments
and special event fund raising. He succeeds Bruce Rosengrant, who left
to take a position at Columbia University. Elder is the first UNCG alumnus
to hold the position.
"I am delighted that Scott Elder has accepted the position of director
of development for intercollegiate athletics," said Stewart. "He brings
experience to the job and as an alumnus, he is devoted to the campus and
its athletic program. I look forward to working with him in the future."
As director, Elder will work with a volunteer executive committee overseeing
all aspects of the Spartan Club, a 1,000-member support organization for
the UNCG athletic program. The executive committee, chaired by David L.
Brown, represents the membership, assists with programming, fund raising
and the recruitment of new members and volunteers.
Elder was director of development for special programs from 1996-98,
working primarily with the University's Weatherspoon Art Gallery
and Jackson Library. A Raleigh native, he graduated from UNCG in May 1993
with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies. As a student,
he was a member of the Centennial Singers during the University's Centennial
year (1991-92), the men's glee club, show choir and symphonic chorus. He
is the fourth individual to hold the director's position, following Dr.
Deborah A. Yow (1987-90), John Montgomery (1990-96) and Rosengrant (1996-98).
