DR. CYNTHIA FARRIS IN LEADERSHIP N.C.
GREENSBORO--Dr. Cynthia Farris, executive assistant to the Chancellor at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, has been selected to represent the Greensboro area in the seventh class of Leadership North Carolina.
Leadership North Carolina is an innovative program designed to help the state's potential leaders understand North Carolina's opportunities and its social and economic problems. Graduates of the program will be targeted to put their knowledge and skills to work to benefit the people of North Carolina.
Farris' selection was announced by Gov. Jim Hunt, honorary chairman, and Charles T. Hagan III of Greensboro, chairman. She is one of 43 selected from a pool of applicants that represent the public, private and nonprofit sectors of the state.
"This outstanding group of North Carolinians can help our state face the challenges of tomorrow," Hunt said in announcing the participants. "Their participation in this program will give them an understanding of statewide issues and will open doors for their involvement in helping resolve these vital issues facing our state."
The first group session took place at Appalachian State University on Nov. 4 and 5. Succeeding sessions will be held throughout the state and will focus on government, the economy, education, the environment and health care and human services.
Leadership North Carolina is open to all citizens of the state. It is governed by a board of directors comprised of leaders in government, business, education and the nonprofit sector. It is a nonprofit, non-partisan organization.
