INDEPENDENT INSURANCE AGENTS OF N.C.
CREATE SCHOLARSHIP FUND AT UNCG

GREENSBORO--The Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina (IIANC), a professional trade association of over 900 insurance agencies around the state, has made a gift of $50,000 to create a scholarship endowment fund for the Bryan School of Business and Economics at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

The gift creates the IIANC Scholarship Fund. Awards will be made annually with preference being given to students in the Bryan School's business administration programs in finance, real estate and insurance. The gift was presented recently during a luncheon at the Bryan School.

John Coupland, who is serving as president elect of IIANC, presented the scholarship endowment check. "On behalf of our board of directors, members and staff, we are pleased to be able to provide this lasting endowment to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro which contributes so greatly to our state through its support and development of higher education," he said. Coupland is vice chairman and COO of ASURA Corp., an independent insurance agency in Research Triangle Park,

Dr. James Weeks, dean of the Bryan School, said, "We appreciate the IIANC's vote of confidence in the quality of UNCG and the Bryan School, as evidenced by this scholarship endowment. Recruiting high quality students is highly competitive and these scholarships will help us to enhance the quality of our finance, insurance and real estate major."

The endowment funds were made provided by the N.C. Association of Insurance Agents (NCAIA), a wholly owned subsidiary of IIANC. The subsidiary company, utilizing the experience of member independent agents, helps identify risks and place insurance  coverage to protect assets of the state of North Carolina.

At the end of each year, NCAIA, a nonprofit corporation, is charged with dispersing its profits to benefit the people of North Carolina. During the past 20 years, NCAIA has contributed approximately $3 million to benefit North Carolina citizens. Grants are made in four areas: fire and safety projects, education, scholarships and arts endowments.
