BAKER MELSON NAMED DIRECTOR
OF PHYSICAL PLANT AT UNCG

GREENSBORO--F. Baker Melson has been appointed director of the physical plant at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro following a national search to fill the position.

Melson's appointment was announced by Davis B. Lumpkin, associate vice chancellor for facilities. In his new position, Melson will be responsible for maintenance and operations for buildings, grounds, campus utilities and minor renovations.

 Melson has worked with UNCG for three years as maintenance and renovations manager of the physical plant. He has served as an interim director of the physical plant for several months.

"I am elated over the appointment of Mr. Melson to the position of director of the physical plant," said Dave Lumpkin, associate vice chancellor for facilities management. "The innovation and change that he has initiated during his interim service have been positive, and I am looking forward to good things in the future."

Melson was a career officer with the U.S. Navy before retiring in 1989. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering. Before coming to UNCG in 1996, he was a facility engineer with Siecor Corporation in Winston-Salem from 1994-96. He was director of facilities for universities with ServiceMaster Management Services from 1992-94. He also was proprietor of a Chick-fil-a restaurant from 1989-92.
