BUSINESSMAN NIDO QUBEIN SELECTED TO RECEIVE
BRYAN SCHOOL'S DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD
GREENSBORO--Businessman
and internationally known author and consultant Nido R. Qubein of High
Point has been selected to receive the first Distinguished Alumni Award
from the Bryan School of Business and Economics at The University of North
Carolina at Greensboro.
The award will be presented
to Qubein on Thursday, Oct. 7, at a 7 p.m. dinner of the school's alumni
association, to be held at the Greensboro-High Point Marriott. The event
also will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Bryan School.
Criteria for the Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes graduates
of Bryan School degree programs who have exceptional achievement and who
have made significant contributions to their professions and to the business
community.
Qubein is the founder, chairman
and CEO of High Point-based Creative Services Inc., an international management
consulting firm. He is also a partner in several other successful companies.
His philanthropic activities, including a foundation which has provided
over $1 million in scholarships, are widely recognized. Qubein
earned his master's degree in business through the Bryan School in
1973.
"Although the selection
committee for this award had several worthy candidates for this award,
Nido's credentials made him the clear choice as our first recipient," said
Bryan School Dean Dr. James K. Weeks. "He is recognized widely as being
among the very top professional speakers. In addition, he has built
a successful business in consulting, public relations and publishing, and
he has been a partner or investor in several other businesses.
"His accomplishments, not
only in the business arena but also in the service and philanthropic arenas,
have been recognized far and wide by prestigious national and international
organizations. We are extremely proud to have an alumnus of Nido's quality
and character."
Qubein was born in the Middle
East in 1948. His life has been is a success story which began after he
came to America in 1966 with no knowledge of English and only $50 in his
pocket. He graduated from Mt. Olive College and High Point University and
received his master's degree from the Bryan School. His accomplishments
earned him the Ellis Island Congressional Medal of Honor, an the honorary
Doctor of Laws degree from Mount Olive College, and dozens of other national
awards.
Through his company, Creative
Services Inc., Qubein is an active speaker and consultant, annually addressing
more than 100 business and professional groups around the world. He has
received the highest awards given to professional speakers, including the
Cavett Award (known as the Oscar of professional speaking), the Speakers
Hall of Fame Award and the Toastmasters Golden Gavel Award. He is a past
president of the 4,000-member National Speakers Association and chairman
of the organization's foundation. He is author of a dozen books and numerous
audio and video learning programs.
Qubein serves on the boards
of 17 universities, companies and community organizations. He is a member
of the board of directors of BB&T Corporation and is a member of the
BB&T advisory board for the High Point area. He is vice chairman of
the High Point Community Foundation and is a member of the High Point First
Committee and the executive committee of High Point Partners. He is a partner
with the public relations and advertising firm of McNeill Lehman.
