European pianist gives French program at UNCG
GREENSBORO — The UNCG School of Music will sponsor a guest recital by pianist Emmanuel Ferrer-Laloë on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the UNCG School of Music Recital Hall.
The program will consist of repertoire by French composers: Debussy’s Children’s Corner; Poulenc’s L’histoire de Babar, le petit elephant; Fauré’s Ballade, Op. 19; and Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin.
Ferrer-Laloë, a citizen of both Spain and France, was born in Algeria. He is a graduate of both the Conservatoire de Toulouse and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. Among his teachers were the organist/composer Marcel Dupré and the pianist Monique Deschaussées. As an internationally touring concert artist, Ferrer-Laloë has appeared in Spain, France, Germany, Australia, Brazil, Greece, Hong-Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Lebanon, Japan, Malaysia, Norway, Portugal, Taiwan, and the United States.
He has taught at summer courses throughout Spain, including Marbella, Gerona, and Cartagena, and as a faculty member of conservatories in Segovia and Saragossa. He is the founding director of the chamber-music festival “Sierra Musical” in Los Molinos (Madrid), Spain, and also directs a concert series at Le Mesnil Saint Martin in the Aquitaine region of France.
Assisting Ferrer-Laloë in the Poulenc piece (which requires a narrator) will be Stanley Hanks, born of American parents in San José, Costa Rica and presently residing in Aachen, Germany.
