Eleanor Smith Presents "Balance" March 28-29

Eleanor Smith, an MFA dance student, will present her thesis concert March 28-29 at the UNCG Dance Theater.

GREENSBORO – The University of North Carolina at Greensboro's Department of Dance will present Eleanor Smith’s M.F.A. thesis concert, Balance.

Performances will be on Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29, at 8 p.m. in the UNCG Dance Theater in the School of Health and Human Performance.  Entrance is on Walker Avenue at Kenilworth Street.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $7 for senior citizens and $5 for students with valid I.D. Free parking is available in the university lot at the corner of Walker Avenue and Aycock Street. For information and reservations, call (336) 334-4849.

There will be six dances performed, including three new pieces.  The concert includes an eclectic mixture of dance forms as well as integrated technology.  The dances range from “Fosse-inspired” jazz to dances that are both contemporary and traditional in style.

The Mozart Effect, a quirky quartet, premiered in the annual UNCG Prime Movers Concert in December 2001 and was recently adjudicated and selected to perform at the gala concert at the Mid-Atlantic American College Dance Festival in Raleigh.

One of Smith’s new pieces, titled That Day, is a multimedia exploration into American history during the last 100 years. She explores technology in dance by projecting footage and creating a riveting set design made of different materials.

Smith is originally from Sanford and has been attending the UNCG graduate program of dance for the previous three years.  She earned an undergraduate degree in dance from Florida State University.

Additional graduate concerts will be presented in the coming weeks by Kindal Blattner (April 4-5) and Lauren Tepper (April 11-12).
