GREENSBORO – On Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12, Lauren Tepper will present In This Very Moment, a program of diverse dances melding artistry and athleticism, entertainment and ideas, at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
The concert will be held at 8 p.m. in the UNCG Dance Theater on Walker Avenue. Tickets, which are $10 for general admission, $8 for students and seniors, and $5 for UNCG students, can be purchased from the University Box Office (336) 334-4849.
The program features the work of renowned choreographers B.J. Sullivan and Jan Van Dyke of UNCG, Toneta Akers-Toler of Theatre West Virginia, and Trish Casey of The North Carolina School of the Arts.
The concert’s six works highlight Tepper's strength and dynamic qualities as a performer, ranging from a haunting, mournful solo choreographed by Casey to a vibrant salsa duet featuring choreography and performance by Tepper and Neal Goldman of Rumba Latina's popular dance company.
Members of the Jan Van Dyke Dance Group will perform with Tepper in Night Between Two Days, a mysterious dreamscape from the repertory of Van Dyke's company, set to the music of Deep Forest. In Pseudochomai, meaning "to hope forward," choreographed by Toler, Tepper performs with members of Theatre West Virginia in an ensemble piece depicting the struggles that both unite and isolate women.
Tepper and Tracie Foster will perform a duet choreographed by Sullivan using intense physicality to explore human tendencies of hiding and revealing the self in relationships. Finally, Tepper will present Come Back Center, a solo inspired by juxtaposed images of nature and humanity in the poetry of Pablo Neruda.
A third year M.F.A. student at UNCG concentrating in dance performance,
Tepper has performed locally with John Gamble Dance Theater and in numerous
UNCG dance productions. She also performed in musicals including Joseph
and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Theatre West Virginia and with
the Piano Mountain Dance Company in New York.
