FIVE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR ADULT STUDENTS AT UNCG

GREENSBORO -- Five scholarships for adult students working toward undergraduate degrees at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro are now available.
Prospective and current adult undergraduates may receive scholarship application forms, which cover all five scholarship sources, from the UNCG Office of Adult Continuing & Evening Students (ACES) by calling 336-334-5757 weekdays. Forms can be picked up at room 104 of Elliott University Center on campus, or requested via e-mail at aces@uncg.edu.
The deadline for scholarship applications is July 1, and the awards are made by August 1 each year. Scholarship awards are made on the basis of financial need, academic performance, life and work experience, and several related criteria, including the writing of a student essay.
The number of adult undergraduate scholarships was boosted substantially by a 50th reunion gift of more than $240,000 in 1998 from the UNCG Class of 1948. The four other scholarship funds are the Kendrick Gilmore Bell Scholarship, the Osborne Memorial Scholarship, the Rice Scholarship, the Betty Everhart Scholarship, and the Non-Traditional Adult Scholarship.
"We are delighted that these funds will be available for use by adult undergraduates at UNCG," said Beverly Bell Armfield of Greensboro, chair of the Class of 1948's 50th anniversary gift committee. "Almost 3,000 adult undergraduates are enrolled at UNCG now and were admitted through the ACES Office. We have heard so many examples of needy adult students, and we intend for these funds to help those students who are so deserving."
"Adults decide to attend UNCG to complete an undergraduate degree for many reasons and at many different stages in life," said Brooks G. Graham, director of the ACES Office. "We are thrilled that UNCG now has additional scholarship funds to help more of these students reach their educational goals."
