GREENSBORO -- Dr. Riad Ajami, who is the Charles A. Hayes Distinguished Professor of Business at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, recently served as a judge for the annual Rochester Institute of Technology/USA Today Quality Cup awards program.
Since 1992, the Quality Cup program has recognized teams that have dramatically improved the quality of goods and services provided by their companies, businesses or agencies. Nominees came from the areas of manufacturing, government, health care, small business, education and the service industry. Winners were judged on their use of teamwork and principles of total quality management to cut costs, solve problems, increase efficiency and better serve customers.
Ajami and the other judges came from corporations and universities around the country. Included on the panel was Dr. Marca Bear, who will be joining the UNCG faculty this fall as an associate professor of international business. Bear is director of the Center for International Business and Economic Growth (CIBEG) at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Ajami came to UNCG in 1996 as the Hayes Distinguished Professor and as director of the Center for Global Business Education and Research in the Bryan School of Business and Economics. Before coming to UNCG, he held the Benjamin Forman Chair Professor of International Business and was director of CIBEG at the Rochester Institute of Technology from 1991-96. Earlier he was chair of the Department of International Business and Strategy at Ohio State University from 1985-91. He also taught at OSU from 1977-85. Ajami is a graduate of Western Michigan University. He received his MBA degree from Portland State University and his Ph.D. degree from Pennsylvania State University.
