PROFESSOR PRESENTS PAPER
AT NETHERLANDS CONFERENCE

GREENSBORO -- Dr. Thomas Fitzgerald, an anthropology professor at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, recently presented a paper at the conference of the European Society for Oceanists in the Netherlands.
The conference took place at the University of Leiden. Fitzgeralds paper was titled "Language Thresholds: Bilingual Issues Among Locally Born Cook Islanders in New Zealand."
A specialist in educational anthropology, Fitzgerald has had a 30-year research interest in ethnicity, identity and culture. He has conducted extensive research on identity and culture in New Zealand, the Cook Islands, Sweden, Finland and on the island of Montserrat in the West Indies. He has published more than 75 articles and six books.
Fitzgerald received his doctorate from UNC-Chapel Hill. The Lexington native joined UNCGs faculty in 1970.
