KENNEDY-MALONE IS CO-AUTHOR OF BOOK
FOR GERONTOLOGICAL NURSE PRACTITIONERS
Dr. Laurie Kennedy-Malone |
GREENSBORO -- Dr. Laurie Kennedy-Malone, an associate professor of nursing at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, is a co-author of a book aimed at nurse practitioners who care for the elderly.
The book, titled "Management Guidelines for Gerontological Nurse Practitioners," was published recently by F.A. Davis Co., a Philadelphia-based medical publisher. Kennedy-Malone co-wrote the book with Kathleen R. Fletcher of the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville and Lori M. Plank of Palisades Family Health Center in Bethlehem, Pa.
Using both medical and nursing perspectives, the 592-page book focuses on 112 health problems in older adults. It addresses a variety of nursing concerns, including nursing diagnoses and patient education. Chapters review the physical and psycho-social changes associated with aging. The text is organized by anatomical areas, and most chapters are followed by diagnostic decision trees.
Gerontological nurse practitioners are advanced practice nurses who usually work in collaboration with a physician to manage chronic and minor acute illnesses or conditions in older adults.
Kennedy-Malone is director of the Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Program in UNCG’s School of Nursing. She has more than 20 years of education and experience in the field. She earned her doctorate at the University of Texas at Austin.
