FACULTY MEMBER RECEIVES AWARD
FROM WOMEN’S HEALTH GROUP

GREENSBORO -- Dr. Hazel N. Brown, an associate professor of nursing at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, received the first Special Director’s Award at the 10th International Congress on Women’s Health Issues, held recently in Indianapolis.

The congress’ sponsoring body, the International Council on Women’s Health Issues, presented the award to Brown in recognition of her contributions to the organization. She served on the council’s board of directors from 1990-98.

Brown also presented a paper at the conference. Her paper was titled "Process Evaluation of College Bound Sisters, an Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program."

Also in June, Brown and Professor Jeanne Sorrell of George Mason University School of Nursing presented a collaborative research paper at Sigma Theta Tau International’s 11th International Nursing Research Congress, which took place in London. The paper was titled "Assessment of Critical Thinking in Nursing Students: Interdisciplinary Portfolio Review."

Brown is chair of the School of Nursing’s Division of Parent-Child Nursing. A specialist in the areas of maternity nursing and nursing administration, she has published numerous articles in professional journals. Earlier this year, she received an Alumni Teaching Excellence Award from UNCG. A faculty member since 1974, Brown received her doctorate from UNCG.
