IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHARLES LYNAM WINS TEACHING AWARD
FROM UNCG SCHOOL OF MUSIC FOR 1999
GREENSBORO -- Professor Charles A. Lynam has received the 1999
Outstanding Teaching Award from the School of Music at The University
of North Carolina at Greensboro.
The award carries a prize of $1,000. All School of Music
faculty members with at least three years of experience at UNCG are
eligible for the award, which the school gives annually.
Funding for the award is provided by UNC General
Administration, which sets aside money for the 16 campuses in the UNC
system to reward excellence in teaching within their colleges and
professional schools.
Lynam joined UNCG's faculty in 1964 and is a past winner of
the University's Alumni Teaching Excellence Award. A voice teacher, he
also has been an active performer during his career, singing with such
groups as the Eastern Philharmonic, Charlotte and Greensboro symphony
orchestras and the Grassroots and Chautauqua opera companies.
A native of Wake Forest, Lynam received his bachelor's degree
from Elon College and his master's degree from New York University. He
studied privately with Hans Heinz of New York's Juilliard School and
Erika Buchmann in Heidelberg, Germany.
