GREENSBORO -- Dr. Patricia W. Stewart, vice president of the Florida State University Foundation, has been appointed vice chancellor for university advancement at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
UNCG Chancellor Patricia A. Sullivan announced the appointment following its approval by the UNC Board of Governors. Stewart will assume her duties July 1. She succeeds Dr. Richard L. "Skip" Moore, who is leaving UNCG to become president of the Weaver Foundation.
"Patricia Stewart will be a valuable addition to the University administration," Sullivan said. "She possesses a tremendous knowledge of fund raising and is keenly aware of the critical role that private support plays in a university's success today. Having been a faculty member during her career, she also has seen firsthand how private support benefits students in the classroom.
"At Florida State, she has amassed a record of success in cultivating the relationships that are necessary to ensure continued support of academic programs and scholarships," Sullivan said. "Furthermore, her understanding of the key roles that effective alumni and university relations play in the overall development effort will enable her to lead the Division of University Advancement as it builds upon the huge success of the recently completed Second Century Campaign for UNCG. I am very pleased to welcome her to UNCG."
At Florida State, Stewart directed the planning, organization, implementation and evaluation of all constituent fund-raising programs. She also directed the supervision of the development officers for the university's 16 colleges and schools. In addition, she maintained a personal portfolio of major gift prospects, and managed, directed and took part in the solicitation of gifts ranging from $100,000 to $5 million. During her tenure, the university completed a successful $300 million capital campaign, and total giving increased 100 percent.
"I am thrilled to be joining the UNCG family," Stewart said. "I'm looking forward to embracing new challenges and working with the outstanding University Advancement team there. UNCG has strong leadership, wonderful students and excellent programs, and I am eager to tell the University's story to our alumni and donors."
Stewart is well-acquainted with North Carolina. Prior to joining the Florida State administration in 1995, she served as vice president for institutional advancement at Peace College in Raleigh for four years. From 1987-91, she held fund-raising positions at N.C. State University, and she earlier worked at Saint Mary's College. For nine years, she was a faculty member at Pennsylvania State University, teaching courses in anatomy, physiology, man and disease, and sports medicine.
A native of Reading, Pa., Stewart received bachelor's, master's and Doctor of Education degrees from Penn State. She also attended the Williamsburg Development Institute in Virginia.
The division Stewart will head at UNCG is responsible for fund raising, alumni relations and university relations. It consists of the following offices: Development, Alumni Affairs, Advancement Services, Annual Programs, University Relations, University News Service, University Publications and the Spartan Club. The division has 59 employees.
