UNCG RECEIVES SAFETY AWARD
FROM STATE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR
GREENSBORO -- The University of North Carolina at Greensboro
is a safer place to work than the average university in the state,
according to the state Department of Labor.
The department recently presented UNCG with an award for
having a workplace injury and illness rate that is 50 percent lower
than the average for other colleges and universities in the state. It
is the second time in the past five years that UNCG has received the
honor, said Bruce Griffin, the University's director of safety.
The Office of State Personnel keeps statistics on the number
of work days employees miss due to injuries or illnesses that occur on
the job. The office submits the information to the Department of
Labor, which honors those agencies and institutions with low rates.
