GREENSBORO -- David Vaughan has been elected chair of the Staff Council at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro for the 1999-2000 year.
Vaughan, director of academic resources in the UNCG Division of Academic Affairs, and other officers will begin their terms on July 1. Other officers recently elected were Barbara Barton, vice chair/chair-elect, and Kelly Hilliard, secretary/treasurer.
The UNCG Staff Council is a representative body for all non-faculty employees at UNCG. It also is an advisory body to Chancellor Patricia A. Sullivan.
The council's mission is to provide for awareness of and involvement in the University community by non-faculty employees; to encourage professional and personal development of the staff; to improve communication between staff and faculty; and to recommend representatives to the chancellor for participation in University governance through committees.
Sullivan began working with administrators and employees to establish a staff council two years ago. After this work began, UNC President Molly Corbett Broad mandated that each of the 16 campuses establish such a council.
Sullivan appointed an interim Staff Council for the 1998-99 year. The interim council created a constitution, mission and goals. This spring, staff members elected representatives to the first official council. It has 29 members representing the spectrum of UNCG staff. Fifteen members will serve a two-year term, and 14 will serve for one year.
In addition to Vaughan, Barton and Hilliard, the following staff members will serve on the council during 1999-2000: Michelle Ackerman, Quentin Baker, Krispin Barr, Gary Beech, Mike Byers, Bruce Cabiness, Shirley Coble, Ruth Ann Cook, Carolyn Coppedge, Mary Culkin, Barbara Gainey, Francina Hoskins, Wanda Kersey, Sarah Ketchum, Toni Knight, Jerome Lee, Brian Long, Sue Ellen Metters, Paige Morris, Sharon Nash-Sellers, Moreland Smith, Neal Thacker, Ann Venable, Tammy Waddell, Evan Wade and Bobby Webb.
