UNCG MATH PROFESSOR SPEAKS IN NEW ZEALAND
GREENSBORO — Dr. Jerry Vaughan, mathematics professor at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, has been invited to speak Aug. 8-16 to the Department of Mathematics at Auckland University in New Zealand.
Vaughan will deliver a sequence of five lectures on "Linearly Stratifiable Spaces", a theoretical topic concerning topology, set theory and the fundamental mathematical concepts of limits and functions. Vaughan will also work with faculty and students on various research projects.
A UNCG faculty member since 1973, Vaughan has previously been invited to deliver series of lectures at Oxford University, UK, and in Oaxaca, Mexico. He is Editor-in-Chief of the international research journal "Topology and its Applications," published by Elsiever, BV in Amsterdam. The journal will publish 27 issues with a total of 3,330 pages this year. Vaughan has also published over 50 research papers in mathematics and co-edited the book "Handbook of Set-Theoretic Topology".
