UNCG Offers Summer Training Opportunities for Educators
GREENSBORO – The School of Education at The University of North
Carolina at Greensboro will provide several training opportunities for
educators this summer, including sessions on teaching in a diverse classroom
and preventing school violence.

The Summer Leadership Institute “Conflict Management: Safe and Successful
Schools,” June 16-18. Participants will meet at N.C. A&T on June 16
and 18; they will meet at UNCG on June 17. The institute will help participants
assess school culture, understand cultural views of communication and conflict,
and manage conflict. UNCG, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State
University, and the Center for the Prevention of School Violence are teaming
up to offer this program.

Yopp Professional Development Institute “Assessment of ILTs: Connecting
INTASC, TPAI, IGPs and Instruction,” June 19-20. Sessions will be held
at Grimsley High School. The Yopp Institute will help new teachers grow
professionally and prepare to be evaluated, as required by the State Department
of Public Instruction, through self-assessment and the development of classroom
instructional activities that reflect state and national teaching standards.

UNCG also is offering three “short courses” for teachers. Teachers will
receive licensure renewal credit for these courses. For information, contact

“Enhancing the Learning of the ESOL Student in General Education
Classrooms,” June 16-20. Participants will learn strategies for teaching
students for whom English is not their native tongue.

“Meeting IEP Goals in General Education Classrooms: Instructional Strategies,”
June 23-27. General education teachers will learn how to effectively serve
students with special needs.

“Working with Diverse Learners: Planning Instruction for All Children,”
June 23-27. Participants will learn skills and strategies for successfully
teaching students of diverse race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender
and exceptionality.
