Angels and Devils: Artist Faculty Chamber Series Continues Nov. 7

GREENSBORO — Take a musical journey through heaven and hell Thursday, Nov. 7, when the School of Music faculty at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro will present “Angels and Devils.”

The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the School of Music Recital Hall.

Following a supernatural theme, the repertoire will include Jean Matitia’s “The Devil’s Rag,” Handel’s “Let the Bright Seraphim,” Dan Welcher’s “Dante Dances,” Saint Saëns’s “Dance Macabre” and Rachmaninoff’s “Symphonic Dances.”

The second in a four-part series, the concert will bring together the diverse talents of School of Music professors and provide audiences with well-rounded, musical experiences, which combine performance and commentary. Narration by Dr. Gregory Carroll, professor of music theory, composition and history, will tie the pieces into the central theme and set them into meaningful context.

Performing faculty will include trumpeter Edward Bach, clarinetist Kelly Burke, soprano Nancy Walker, saxophonist Steve Stusek and pianists Andrew Harley, Andrew Willis, Joseph Di Piazza, and George Kiorpes. Pianists Elizabeth Loparits and Timothy Lindeman will also perform.

The next Artist Faculty Chamber Series concert will be “All That Jazz” on Jan. 30, 2003.

Tickets are available through the UNCG box office with locations in Aycock Auditorium and the School of Music or by calling (336) 334-4849, weekdays from noon to 5 p.m. Prices are $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and $3 for students.
