UNCG NURSING PROFESSOR SPEAKS AT HEALTH CONFERENCE
GREENSBORO — Dr. Hazel Brown, professor of nursing at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, presented a paper, "College Bound Sisters: The First Three Years," at the International Congress on Women's Health Issues in San Francisco in January.
The topic of her paper was the adolescent pregnancy prevention program she has directed over the past four years with Dr. Rebecca Saunders, associate professor of nursing.
Now in its fourth year, "College Bound Sisters focuses on girls who have sisters who had babies before age 18. Through weekly meetings, activities and mentoring, the program encourages girls ages 12 to 17 to avoid pregnancy, graduate from high school and go to college. The program puts $7 a week into a college fund for each participant who attends the meetings and avoids getting pregnant.
