Nutrition Student Takes Cake
GREENSBORO – Jonathan Mark Brown, a doctoral student in nutrition at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, won four research awards at Experimental Biology 2004, an interdisciplinary scientific meeting held April 17-21 in Washington.
Brown is mentored by Dr. Michael McIntosh of the nutrition department in the School of Human Environmental Sciences. In July, he will begin a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California at San Diego with Dr. Jerrold Olefsky, an internationally recognized scientist conducting diabetes and obesity research.
Brown won two awards in the abstract competition and two more in the poster competition. His work dealt with nutrient-gene interaction, dietary bioactive components, and energy and macronutrients. His awards included financial prizes totaling $2,300.
