LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS AWARDS
RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP TO UNCG PROFESSOR
GREENSBORO--Economist Dr. Bruce Caldwell of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro has been selected for a year-long fellowship to the London School of Economics.
Caldwell will have the Ludwig M. Lachmann Research Fellowship, which is awarded by the School's Department of Philosophy, for the 2000-01 year. While there, he will complete his book on the work of economic theorist F.A. Hayek.
The UNCG professor also is completing his term as president of the History of Economics Society, and will deliver his presidential address at the organization's meeting in Vancouver.
A UNCG faculty member since 1978, Caldwell also is serving as executive director of the International Network for Economic Method. With 225 members worldwide, the organization promotes the study of economic methodology and related topics. He has received a grant from the National Science Foundation to examine the economic methodology of Hayek.
Caldwell is author of the book, "Beyond Positivism: Economic Methodology in the 20th Century." He is editor of six other books, including "Socialism and War: Essays, Documents Reviews," "Appraisal and Criticism in Economics," "Austrian Economics: Tensions and Directions" and the three-volume series "The Philosophy and Methodology of Economics." He serves on the board of editors of four academic journals. He is a past director of the UNCG Honors Program.
