Breast Cancer Survivors Sought for UNCG Research Study
GREENSBORO — Current research indicates that women diagnosed
with breast cancer who remain physically active maintain a better quality
of life.
With this research in mind, the Department of Exercise and Sport Science
at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro has created BREATHE (Breast
cancer Exercise And Total Health Enhancement).
BREATHE is a 12-week research program that evaluates the effects of
Tai Chi exercise and support group therapy on the quality of life of breast
cancer survivors.
The program meets in the evenings after work in the Health and Human
Performance Building.
Participants will receive T-shirts, water bottles, and other incentive
awards for participating in the program in addition to the physical and
mental benefits of the interventions.
Participants must be women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer
but who have finished their surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation within
the last two years or by Dec. 9. Women may have undergone all of these
treatments or just one. Participants may also be taking drug therapy. There
is no age restriction. For more information, contact Karen Mustian, Ph.D.
candidate, at 6-0280 or email kmmustia@uncg.edu.
