UNCG LAUNCHES CERTIFICATE
PROGRAM IN WOMEN'S STUDIES
GREENSBORO — An increase of interest from students in issues of gender and family has prompted the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to create the only free-standing graduate certificate program in Women's Studies in the state.
An open house to introduce the program to prospective graduate students is scheduled for 5:15 - 6:30 p.m. April 13 in the Faculty Center on Administration Drive at UNCG. Parking is available in the Walker Street parking deck.
The new post-baccalaureate certificate is designed for members of the community who already have an undergraduate degree and for enrolled graduate students who want to combine the certificate with a degree program. The program allows students to enrich their personal and professional lives by examining women's experiences and concerns in depth. Through course work, internships and independent study, students focus on issues of gender, sexuality, race, class and ethnicity. Students may design their program to complement particular interests in such fields as women and social services, women's history, or gender and health, among others.
The wide-ranging course of study will further enhance work in non-profit agencies, government and business as well as in interdisciplinary teaching. The program also serves as preparation for entry into professional degree programs in such fields as law, child development, humanities, and public health.
For further information about the program, contact Dr. Mary Ellis Gibson, graduate director of Women's Studies at UNCG at (336) 334-4690.
