UNCG HAS NEW CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AREAS

GREENSBORO—A new post-baccalaureate certificate program for studies in business administration is being introduced at the Joseph M. Bryan School of Business and Economics at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

The program provides training beyond the bachelor’s degree and requires that students complete a minimum of 12 semester hours. Interested persons can get information now through the MBA program, which is directed by Dr. Richard Ehrhardt, a professor of information systems and operations management.

"The purpose of this certificate is to provide professionals who have a bachelor’s degree in a non-business field with the opportunity to acquire education in business administration without committing to the lengthier MBA program," said Ehrhardt. "If people in the certificate program decide to enter the MBA program at UNCG, any coursework taken as part of the certificate program can be applied towards the MBA degree.”

While the new program does not confer a degree, it allows students to take 12 hours of graduate business courses that are required for the MBA program. It can also serve as a point of entry for students whose academic credentials and test scores might not qualify them for immediate admission to the MBA program.

“We will evaluate how students do in the certificate program,” said Ehrhardt. “If they show good progress, can handle the material and finish with a good academic record, we would admit them to the MBA program if they want to continue.”

Most of the certificate courses are pre-requisites for the MBA program and all are drawn from regular offerings. All MBA courses are divided into half-semester modules and provide 1.5 hours of academic credit. Course topics include business statistics, presentation/interpretation of financial statements, economic analysis, organizational behavior, management science, financial management, marketing management, cost management systems, economic policy in the global environment, business in the international economy and information systems and technology.

Ehrhardt said that admission to the certificate program requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the undergraduate major, a satisfactory score on the GMAT.  More information is available (336-334-5390) in the MBA program office.

The new certificate program joins a group of other graduate level degree programs in the Bryan School. In addition to the MBA, the school offers the M.A. degree in economics, M.S. in accounting and the M.S. in information technology and management. Other post-master’s certificate programs also are available in international business, advanced studies and information technology.
