UNCG Class of 1952 Creates Reunion Gift Professorship
GREENSBORO — The University of North Carolina at Greensboro has received funds to create a new Excellence Professorship in English--thanks to the Class of 1952 and Greensboro businessman Stanley Frank.
Class gift chair Dr. Betty Bullard of Columbia, SC, and class president June Rainey Honeycutt of Camden, DE, presented a check for $397,185 to UNCG Chancellor Patricia Sullivan. The total surpassed the Class of 1952's original goal of $350,000 by almost $50,000.
Then the class got some help from Frank, who received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree at this year's commencement. Frank obviously likes round numbers—when he heard how close the group's reunion gift had come to $400,000, he said he would make up the difference.
The gift will create the Class of 1952 Excellence Professorship in English. It was announced at the 109th meeting of the UNCG Alumni Association, held Saturday, May 18, as part of UNCG's commencement weekend activities. "We love this University and we wanted to do something special for our reunion," said Bullard in presenting the check. "We hope this professorship will help continue the high quality of teaching."
