BRYAN SCHOOL TO HONOR SUE W. COLE
WITH 2000 DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD

GREENSBORO—Sue W. Cole of Greensboro, who is president of U.S. Trust Company of North Carolina, has been selected to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Bryan School of Business and Economics at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

The award will be presented to Cole on Thursday, Nov. 2, at a 7 p.m. dinner of the school’s alumni association, to be held at the UNCG Alumni House. The event also marks the 31st anniversary of the founding of the Bryan School. The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes graduates of Bryan School degree programs who have shown exceptional achievement and who have made significant contributions to their professions and to the business community.

“The selection committee had several worthy candidates, but Sue’s credentials made her the clear choice for this year’s award,” said Bryan School Dean Dr. James K. Weeks. “Her accomplishments, in both the business and service arenas, have been recognized far and wide.

“On a personal note, it has been very satisfying to see one of my former students grow personally and professionally and for her to become one of my most valued advisors in the business community. We are extremely proud to have Sue as an alumna.”

Cole has worked with corporations and their executive management for 26 years. She joined North Carolina Trust, the predecessor of U.S. Trust Company of North Carolina, in 1987. Previously, she was a senior vice president with NCNB, where she was responsible for corporate banking services in the Greensboro area, and had managed the retail branch system.

Cole received her bachelor’s (1972) and MBA degrees (1977) from UNCG. She currently serves as a member of the UNCG Board of Trustees. She has served as chair of the Bryan School Advisory Board and has been a member of the board of the UNCG Excellence Foundation Inc. She is a member of the board of directors of N.C. Citizens for Business and Industry, and also the board of directors of the N.C. Center for Public Policy Research. She also is a member of the CEO Advisory Council for Guilford Technical Community College. A graduate of Leadership Greensboro, she also has been chairman of the Greensboro Area Chamber of Commerce and president of the Greensboro Center City Corporation.
