Alumni Dancers Return to UNCG for Sept. 28 Concert
GREENSBORO – Alumnae of The University of North Carolina at
Greensboro will showcase their talents in a collective concert Saturday,
Sept. 28, at 8 p.m. The performance will be in the UNCG Dance Theater on
Walker Avenue at Kenilworth.
Part of the university’s Fall Festival Weekend, the premiere concert will feature solo and ensemble works in various styles.
The seven-member group represents instructors and company founders from three states and the District of Columbia. Coming from New York City will be Devona Cartier (BFA ’00), director of Kazabazua, a dance company combining lindy hop and modern dance. Melissa Jennings Saint Amour (MFA ’99), an independent artist in Washington, D.C., teaches at George Mason University, Montgomery College and the Fillmore Arts Center. Bess (Harper) Park Reynolds (MFA ’92) is currently director of musical theatre and dance at West Virginia Wesleyan College and director of feMo Dance Theatre. Barbara Michaelson (MFA ’92) choreographs, teaches, and performs for Trillium Performing Arts Collective in West Virginia.
Rounding out the performance will be three North Carolina dancers. Susan Lutz (MFA ’96) co-directs the Appalachian Dance Ensemble and teaches at Appalachian State University, while Chrissy Hawley Pressley (MFA ’94) choreographs for Urban Gypsies in Raleigh. Harper Piver (BFA ’98) performs and choreographs with Wilmington Independent Choreographers and the Dance Cooperative.
Concert admission is free, but donations will be requested to support
the cost of the production. Limited seating will be available on a first-come,
first-served basis.
