UNCG Sponsors Make A Difference Day
Oct. 25 to Benefit Community

GREENSBORO - The University of North Carolina at Greensboro anticipates at least 500 students to volunteers with social service agencies across the Piedmont Triad region for the national Make a Difference Day Saturday, Oct. 25.

Make a Difference Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others. Created by USA Weekend Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event held on the fourth Saturday of October. In 2002, 3 million people participated in the program nationwide.

Although UNCG has had a long history of volunteering in the community, this is its first year with the national program. The university is encouraging are encouraged students, alumni, faculty and staff to create their own project or complete let the Office of Student Life place them with a service project matching the individuals needs and interests.

Projects might be as ambitious as collecting truckloads of clothing for the homeless, or as personal as spending an afternoon helping an elderly neighbor or relative.

Volunteers will assemble Saturday, Oct. 25, at 10 a.m. in the Elliott University Center Auditorium to kick-off the day. Folowing the day of service to the community, volunteers will reconvene at 4 p.m. for reflections and a celebration.
