UNCG Gives Awards For Teaching, Research, Scholarship
and Service
GREENSBORO--Faculty, students and staff members at The University
of North Carolina at Greensboro received awards for excellence in teaching,
research, scholarship and service during the institution’s Excellence Day
on May 8.
Two separate events were held, an afternoon Excellence Awards Convocation
for faculty, graduate students and staff, and the evening Undergraduate
Honors Convocation. Presented for the first time this year were the Staff
Excellence Awards. The award winners were:
Faculty and Staff Honors

Staff Excellence Awards—Toni Knight, director of the Student Advising and
Recruitment Center and director of the UNCG Teaching Fellows Program,
School of Education; and Yvonne Cousino, director of enrolled student services,
Graduate School.

Gladys Strawn Bullard Awards for service—Staff winner, Melvin Ward, senior
director of personnel services, Human Resource Services; student winner,
senior Ashly Hope Valas of Nakina; and faculty winner, Dr. Anita Tesh,
associate professor, School of Nursing.

Alumni Teaching Excellence Awards—Dr. Susan Buck, associate professor,
Department of Political Science; and Dr. Nancy Meyers, Department of English.

Research Excellence Award—Dr. Loren Schweninger, professor, Department
of History.
