Dancers to Perform Faculty Choreography

GREENSBORO - The UNCG Department of Dance will present a faculty concert Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 20-22, at 8 p.m. in the Dance Theatre on Walker Avenue.

The concert will highlight the original choreography of faculty members John Gamble, Robin Gee, Eluza Santos, b.j. sullivan and Jan Van Dyke. All have been working with dancers from the department as well as outside artists to create the diverse body of work.

Tickets will be available through the University Box Office and reservations can be made by calling (336) 334-4849. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for students and seniors, and $5 for UNCG students.  Entrance to the theater is on Walker Avenue, across the street from the parking garage.
The concert will feature:

• Eluza Maria Santos will present a work titled, "The Other Side," featuring six UNCG dance students. It is a contemporary dance based on Capoeira, and was inspired by the music of Brazilian husband and wife, Airto Moreira and Flora Purim.

• b.j. sullivan will present a piece with an original score by Frank Vulpi. The piece is a reflection on the arts, education, and artist versus scholar perspectives. Ten dancers will perform this work.

• Jan Van Dyke choreographed a duet titled "Lament" that will be performed by Kelly Swindell and Wesley Williams.  The dance depicts existential struggle and features music by Tangerine Dream.

• John Gamble will present a revision of "Fitting In," featuring movement invention by the cast of 21 performers and the poetry of Nikki Giovanni, read by Sharony Green. This quiet dance reflects the rhythm and intimacy of the poetry, and explores the underlying tensions of human relationships.

• Robin Gee, new to the dance faculty this fall, will present the premiere of a work that features a special live performance of guest drummers with UNCG dance students.
