“Flannel Shorts” to be Staged Dec. 4-7 at UNCG
GREENSBORO – UNCG Theatre will present its 7th Annual “Flannel Shorts” program of original plays Wednesday through Saturday, Dec. 4-7, in the Brown Building Theatre at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Audiences can enjoy the creative work of sophomore acting students who will perform in eight short plays written by UNCG alumni or students. Performances are 7 p.m. Dec. 4-5 and 8 p.m. Dec. 6-7. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and non-UNCG students, $8 for groups of 10 or more, and $5 for UNCG Students. For tickets or information, call (336) 334-4849.
Coached by drama faculty members Jim Wren, Kim Stauffer, Marc Williams and Tim Bohn, the student actors have an opportunity to create new roles while playwrights can see their work staged. Audiences can enjoy the premieres in a varied evening of entertainment.
“This year the shows explore the intricacies of relationships – with our lovers, family, friends, possessions, art and even our feet,” said Wren. “Each play, approximately 10 minutes in length, is a complete entity, a brief look at ourselves through the eyes of these young writers.”
The plays and their authors are: “Hypothetically Speaking” by Doug Booher, “Train” by Josh Tyson, “Ashes” by Jay Ewing, “Getting off on the Wrong Foot” by Kim Moore, “Single Minded” by Tessa Martin, “Puzo and the Personals” by Lisa Bowers, “More than a Mouthful” by Brandon Cardinal and “New in Town” by Kim Moore.
Performing will be student actors: Jamie Dunn, James Forgey, Leah Humphrey, Lydia Hyslop, Sharisse Mayfield, Libby Maddocks, Ben Michael, Cara Reid, Brandon Thorne and Nathan West.
