DR. FRIERSON NAMED TO NATIONAL BOARD
GREENSBORO --Dr. Michael Frierson, an associate professor of broadcasting/cinema and theatre at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, has been named to the board of directors of the Society for Animation Studies.
The Society for Animation Studies (SAS) is an international body that was established in 1989 to promote the study of the animated film and to disseminated the research of its members. SAS provides a focus for animation studies that has led to widespread examination of animation at other academic conferences and in scholarly journals, Frierson said.
A UNCG faculty member since 1989, Frierson is an associate professor who teaches film production and theory in the UNCG Department of Broadcasting/Cinema and Theatre. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. With his wife, Martha Garrett, he has produced award-winning clay films that have appeared on Nickelodeon and on the Children's Television Workshop's "Square One Television." Frierson is author of the book, "Clay Animation: American Highlights 1908 - Present," which received the 1995 McLaren-Lambart Book Award, given by the by the Society for Animation Studies and the National Film Board of Canada.
