DR. ETHEL GLENN, RETIRED FACULTY MEMBER,
INDUCTED INTO GROUP'S HALL OF FAME

 GREENSBORO--The International Listening Association (ILA) inducted Dr. Ethel C. Glenn, an emeritus professor at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, into its Hall of Fame at the annual convention at Virginia Beach, March 8-12.

Glenn was a member of the Department of Communication and Theatre from 1972 until her retirement in 1995.  She has remained active in the ILA, delivering papers and attending conventions.

Her areas of specialization are public address, public speaking and listening. She is a past president of the Carolina Speech Communication Association and the International Listening Association. She is co-author of two textbooks, "Your Voice and Articulation" and "Public Speaking: Today and Tomorrow." Glenn holds the Ph.D. from the University of Texas.

The ILA  promotes the study, development, and teaching of listening and the practice of effective listening skills and techniques. With a current membership of about 500, the group includes teachers and business consultants from around the United States and six foreign countries.

The Hall of Fame is the ILA's highest award, recognizing service both to the association and to the field of listening in general. Glenn has published several articles about listening and has conducted a number of workshops to improve listening effectiveness.   She edited the ILA newsletter for 4 years, chaired several committees and was president from 1990-1991. She continues to conduct presentations on listening skills for church and community groups.
