School of Human Environmental Sciences Honors Alums

GREENSBORO – The University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s School of Human Environmental Sciences has honored four of its alumnae.

The Distinguished Alumni Award was presented to Dr. Nancy Kingsbury, who earned a bachelor’s degree in 1973, a master’s degree in 1977 and doctorate in 1983 in human development and family studies. She completed post-doctoral work in management development at Harvard University. Currently, Kingsbury is the dean of Ball State University’s College of Applied Sciences and Technology.

The Pacesetter Awards were presented to Cyndi Furr Folds and Claudia Green.

Folds, co-founder and principal of One Design Center, received her bachelor’s degree in interior design in 1972. She has been a mentor and supporter of students in the Department of Interior Architecture for more than twenty years. She has provided paid internships, hired graduates as junior designers and served on the HES Foundation Board.

 Dr. Claudia Green earned a bachelor’s degree in dietetics in 1975 and a master’s degree in nutrition in 1997. After earning a doctorate at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, she served as a faculty member in UNCG’s Department of Nutrition from 1988-1999. She is now coordinator of the Hotel Management Program at Pace University.

The Young Alumni Award was presented to Kimberly S. Bourne, who earned a bachelor’s degree in apparel and textiles, design and marketing in 1996. Since graduating, she has worked as a legislative marketing aide for Rep. Alice Borodkin of the Colorado General Assembly and as a marketing manager. Bourne also is the development director of Dress for Success Denver, a nationally recognized program that provides interview apparel and professional development training for low-income women.
