UNCG Celebrates International Education Week Nov. 19-22
GREENSBORO – Local residents can broaden their world view Tuesday
through Friday, Nov. 19-22, when International Education Week is celebrated
by The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Established three years ago and supported by President George W. Bush,
International Education Week is a joint effort between the U.S. Department
of State and the U.S. Department of Education. Its goal is the promotion
of multicultural understanding.
The International Programs Center at UNCG will host a reception Tuesday,
Nov. 19, to kick-off the week’s events. International cuisine and multicultural
entertainment, including a Panamanian dance demonstration, will be featured
at this free event. The reception will take place from 4 - 6 p.m. in the
Virginia Dare Room of Alumni House.
Throughout the week, students and faculty at UNCG will participate
in seminars discussing study abroad opportunities and international issues.
In addition, foreign students studying at UNCG will reach out to local
children through international awareness visits at Peeler Elementary and
Brooks Global Elementary.
Foreign films will be shown at International House (Phillips Hawkins
dormitory) Tuesday and Thursday from 8 - 10 p.m. Admission is free.
The final event of the week will be the International Student Association’s
Friday Fest at International House. Friday Fest brings together international
students of varying backgrounds in an informal conversation session from
2 to 4 p.m. every Friday. A special program highlighting diverse cultures
will be presented Nov. 22 in honor of the national celebration.
All events are free and open to the public. For more information, call
the International Programs Center at (336) 334-5404.
