DR. RICHARD JAEGER HONORED
GREENSBORO--Dr. Richard M. Jaeger, who is the NationsBank Excellence Professor emeritus at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the N.C. Association for Research in Education (NCARE).
Jaeger received the award on March 22 at the organization's annual meeting in Chapel Hill. His selection was based on his contributions to educational measurement in the state. A UNCG faculty member from 1976 until his retirement in 1999, he is known internationally for his work in educational research methodology. He has been active in NCARE for many years, serving as its president in 1982. NCARE has more than 300 education research faculty, practitioners and graduate students.
He was involved with the work of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) from 1992-99 as director of the board's Technical Analysis Group. In that capacity, he received more than $7.5 million in grants for the TAG's work.
In the UNCG School of Education, Jaeger was director of the Center for Educational Research and Evaluation. Among his honors, Jaeger has received career achievement awards from the American Educational Research Association and from the National Council on Measurement in Education. He also received the 1998 Distinguished Achievement Award for outstanding scholarship from the Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing at the University of California at Los Angeles.
He has served on the National Academy of Sciences / National Research Council Committee on Equivalency and Linkage of Educational Tests. He is a past president of the National Council on Measurement in Education and was vice president for measurement and research methodology of the American Educational Research Association.
A former editor of the "Journal of Educational Measurement," Jaeger is author of several books on educational measurement and evaluation, along with numerous journal articles and technical reports. In addition to the NBPTS funding, Jaeger's research projects have received more than $3 million in grant and contract support.
