LIBBY HILL SEAFOOD RESTAURANTS ESTABLISH SCHOLARSHIP
GREENSBORO -- Libby Hill Seafood Restaurants of Greensboro has established a new, $5,000 scholarship to be awarded every year to a student of Foodservice Systems Management at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
The Lucas L. Conrad Scholarship is named to honor the memory of Libby Hill founder, who opened the first Libby Hill Seafood Restaurant in 1953.
Not having had the opportunity himself, Conrad believed that everyone should have access to higher education. He once said. "An education is something you can't give away. It can't be taken from you and you can't buy it or sell it." The scholarship was established in recognition of his commitment to education. It is awarded annually on the basis of academic achievement and financial need. The first recipient of the Lucas L. Conrad Scholarship is Jenny Claire Robie of Winston-Salem, a freshman.
"UNCG is grateful to Libby Hill Seafood for this generous support to students enrolled in our Foodservice Systems Management program," said Chancellor Patricia Sullivan. "This new scholarship will be instrumental in preparing talented leaders in this important and thriving industry."
Foodservice Systems Management at UNCG is a four-year program in which
students study the science of human nutrition, as well as principals of
management, marketing and finance. In addition, students must complete
an intensive 400-hour internship and satisfactorily complete a written
and oral presentation. ###
